Are you determined to be fit and healthy but you don’t have access to the gym or too busy? These simple tips will help you take the first step towards a healthier you.
Walk while talking on the phone or waiting for someone. Avoid sitting continuously for more than 30 minutes. You can take advantage of the mobile apps which remind you to get up at regular intervals.
Avoid the elevator. Spare a few minutes to walk up at least 3-4 flights of stairs every day.It is well worth the time. You can work your thigh and abdominal muscles as well if you climb 2 steps at a time.

In front of the TV
Watching your favourite reality show? Ditch the couch and do pushups, situps, squats, bridging. That’s one way you can avoid unnecessary and unhealthy snacks too.
They are so convenient, can be carried around and used at your workplace while travelling or even on a vacation (take a break for a few minutes and do some stretches. It can work wonders to your body if done regularly).
At the cinemas
Planning to watch a movie? Pack some digestives or oats biscuits and flavoured milk packs so that you are not tempted to buy the buttery popcorn combo with those toxic fizzy drinks. We all know that kids get hungry only when they are out!
Limit eating pizzas and burgers to once or twice a month. If you are an avid fan of those, try maintaining a diary and review at the end of the month. Opt for soups, smoothies, wraps, salads and sandwiches instead.
Healthy cooking at home
Avoid processed and refined food as much as possible. Fresh fruits and veggies, herbs, nuts, spices, lean meat, fish, whole grains and pulses should dominate your grocery list. Never skip meals, at least breakfast and lunch. Ironically, hunger at the wrong time becomes the worst enemy of healthy eating. When there is a lack of time, the first thing we do is to skip meals and end up snacking, snacking and snacking.
